We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As chiropractors who care about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Wendy Varish, Dr. David Portmann, Dr. Erik Butzen, and Dr. George Varish have decades of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine.
There are many techniques that can be used to adjust your spine. At Howards Grove Chiropractic, we do not use a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Instead, we listen to our patients! We want your experience to be comfortable and effective. Whether you prefer light or heavier type of adjustments, popping or no-popping, stretching or no stretching, we can accommodate your preferences.
Many patients are first introduced to chiropractic care because of an acute, or sudden, injury. For many patients, their first experience with chiropractic care is as a "last resort" for chronic pain. Whether you have a new condition or a long-term condition, our doctors will examine you and discuss your options for treatment. Our goal is that we can provide you with the highest quality of care so that we earn your trust and become your partner in maintaining your health and the health of your family.
From acute care to chronic care to wellness/ preventative care... from infants to seniors... from athletes to weekend warriors... let us help you achieve your goals of total health or wellness.
Corrective Exercises, Rehab and Foundation Training
At Howards Grove Chiropractic we teach our patients how to perform rehab exercises customized for each patient designed to help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. We also offer individual or group Foundation Training exercise sessions that help restore core balance.
In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Physical Therapy Modalities:
At Howards Grove Chiropractic, we utilize state-of-the-art physiotherapy modalities as needed in order to help each patient heal faster, experience pain-relief, and restore normal health. Physiotherapy modalities, such as Light therapy / Cold Laser, Interferential or e-stim, ultrasound, or traction, all have specific actions that affect the body and assist in healing. Our chiropractors will determine if a physiotherapy modality would help your specific condition. Each patient's treatment and therapy plan is tailored to meet your unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of physiotherapy may include the increase of local blood circulation and nutrition to the injured tissues, a localized reduction in swelling, reduction of pain, speeding up of healing, and the relaxation of muscles. Different physiotherapy modalities have been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion and reduce pain while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Investigative studies have even indicated that chiropractic care including physiotherapy may help boost your immune system!
Therapeutic Exercise and Cervical or Lumbar Traction or Decompression are also offered at Howards Grove Chiropractic. To achieve a quicker response, Howards Grove Chiropractic is one of only a handful of clinics in the Midwest to own Protec Spine Floating Manipulative Therapy Device. This unique device allows the patient to achieve an unloading of the spine which helps decompress nerves and reduce radicular pain. Also, while "unloading" a patient's spine utilizing the Protec, our doctors are able to help the patient achieve much greater range of motion, increase flexibility, strengthen muscles, and provide nerve decompression.
As an additional option, both Dr. Wendy Varish and Dr. David Portmann are trained in the techniques of Dry Needling or Myofascial Trigger Point Needling. Therapeutic dry needling is a relatively comfortable procedure that can release pain, ease acute inflammation and promote healing in your body. Dry needling is used to release or inactivate trigger points, thereby relieving pain and improving range of motion.
Many of our patients come to see our doctors to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractors will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Howards Grove Chiropractic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
In addition, many times patients with chronic conditions realize that there are certain foods, medications, molds or other substances that they may have sensitivity to, causing exacerbation of their conditions. As an adjunctive service, our doctors use ALCAT allergy testing to help pinpoint the specific offending foods or substances. This detailed lab testing helps patients in modifying their diet, thereby eliminating the food sensitivities and eventually overcoming the sensitivities.
Soft Tissue Release / Myofascial Release Therapy
Soft Tissue Release /Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Myofascial Release therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves chronic musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of soft tissue massage or trigger point therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, and aids in a patient's recovery.
